cadet capela is pleased to present Current, Ernesto Burgos’ second exhibition in Paris.

Ernesto Burgos’ works challenge the boundaries between disciplines. Situated between sculpture and painting, between support and surface, they unfold a unique visual language where tension and fluidity coexist. Surpassing sculpture, these pieces assert their presence, animated by an intrinsic vitality.

Burgos’ artistic journey began with the appropriation of everyday, pre-designed objects before evolving into the creation of autonomous forms in fiberglass and resin. These materials capture a state of suspension—a paradox between stillness and latent energy that gives Burgos’ works a distinctive and independent dynamism. Each piece emerges from a dialogue between control and chance, where curves, folds, and hollows take shape through chemical reactions.

In Burgos’ work, form and color do not oppose but rather merge. Color reveals the structure, while structure guides the color. Painting is an autonomous language. Each surface becomes the journal of an event, a space where visual and material interactions unfold. Thus, an initial sculptural gesture may serve as the starting point for a pictorial composition, with each medium nourishing and influencing the other. The works open themselves to the viewer, akin to flowers in full bloom, revealing their inner landscapes. Breaking away from the wall, they assert themselves as living entities that captivate and immerse us in their formal universe. At times, painting dominates the structure, transforming these forms into ‘arenas,’ spaces of exploration where gesture and color garner free expression.

The work of the artist unfolds in cycles of production spanning several months. Each series forms a constellation of forms and experiences in tension rather than a linear narrative. With Current, his works explore balance, spontaneity, and the infinite potential of matter. The result is an exhibition where each step the viewer takes opens the door to a new sensory space—a world in perpetual metamorphosis.

Through his practice, Ernesto Burgos extends the contemporary dialogue on formal expressivity and the sculptural dimension of painting within the history of art.
