Ernesto Burgos

Les œuvres sculpturales d’Ernesto Burgos sont influencées par les tendances de l’expressionnisme abstrait des années 1950, caractérisées par de grandes formes et la manipulation de matériaux bruts. Burgos utilise des matériaux ordinaires tels que le carton, la fibre de verre et la résine, subissant un processus méticuleux de pliage, de déchirure, de découpe et de collage, guidé en partie par l’intuition et en partie par la nature des matériaux eux-mêmes. L’artiste est fasciné par les objets en cours de transformation et tient à ce que le processus reste visible dans la pièce finale.
Son exploration artistique va au-delà de ses propres expositions, comme en témoigne sa curation de l’exposition collective “Evening of the Day” chez cadet capela en avril 2023, présentant des œuvres de Saif Azzuz, Chelsea Culprit, Brian DeGraw, Brittni Ann Harvey, Erin O’Keefe, Eddie Martinez, Sarah Peters et Derek Weisberg. Cette exposition dépeignant une scène artistique contemporaine new-yorkaise avait pour objectif d’explorer la nature cyclique de l’art et de ses motifs.
Burgos a obtenu un BFA du College of the Arts de San Francisco, en Californie, en 2004, suivi d’un MFA de l’Université de New York en 2008. Son travail a été présenté dans des expositions individuelles dans des galeries internationales telles que Kate Werble Gallery à New York, The Goma à Madrid et David Castillo Gallery à Miami. De plus, son travail foit partie de la collection publique du Kunstmuseum Magdeburg en Allemagne.
